Discover Huntington Beach

Knows as “Surf City”, Huntington Beach is the largest beach city in Orange County, and one of the larger cities with almost 200,000 residents. Named after the tycoon Henry Huntington, Huntington Beach was incorporated in 1909. The city was the end stop of Huntington’s Pacific Electric Red Line. To attract residents, companies would give away a small parcel of land for a beach house in exchange for the purchase of an encyclopedia set. Once oil was discovered, this offer ceased quickly.

Huntington Beach also includes Huntington Harbour, which is a large boating community on the back bay of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and Sunset Beach, where there are a number of beach homes next to Pacific Coast Highway. Huntington Beach, with it abundant beach parking, is home to a few large events each year attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors including the US Surf Championship, the Huntington Beach Airshow, and the largest July 4th parade west of the Mississippi. There is a wide variety of housing including beach homes, homes with boat docks. “tall and skinny” downtown homes, high density apartment complexes and a few mobile home parks. The owner occupied rate is 60% of all households.
