Discover Fullerton

Fullerton has a long history, but has adapted over the years. Founded in 1887, originally Fullerton as a large producer of agriculture, and specifically oranges. Oranges gave way to petroleum when that was discovered and during World War II, Fullerton was home to food processing plants and aerospace manufacturing.

In 1963 Fullerton was selected as the site for Orange County’s state college, and Cal State Fullerton, which was once a commuter school, is now home to over 40,000 students, and other schools have sprung up around this school. Fullerton revitalized their downtown, and now Downtown Fullerton is home to a number of restaurants and bars and a destination point for both students and locals.

The real estate market is very diverse, both culturally and economically. There are older multi-unit buildings near downtown and close to the schools, but a large area dominated by a thriving Korean population to the west. Since Fullerton is effectively “built-out” with only small in-fill developments, real estate is generally expensive and rental prices firm.

Pros

  • Large student bodies looking for housing
  • Downtown Fullerton highly desirable
  • Stable housing stock

Cons

  • Some older areas of town have high crime
  • Cal State Fullerton building on site housing now
  • Most multi-family buildings concentrated in one area
