Discover Costa Mesa

“Coast Table” in Spanish, Costa Mesa is plateau by the coast. It was farmland, but during World War II, it was home to the Santa Ana Army Base and after the war many soldiers returned to put down roots. The city was incorporated in 1953 and grew from a population of 17,000 pre-war to over 110,000 in present day. The city has one of the lower owner-occupied rates of households at 40% and many rentals. The 55 freeway ends in Costa Mesa and 17th Street is home to many bars, restaurants and clubs catering to a younger population.
